1. When In Doubt, Floss More
In a recent study, a full 69 percent of Americans reported flossing less than the ADA-recommended minimum of once per day.
If you aren’t flossing regularly, you aren’t getting rid of the plaque build-up that lives between teeth. Over time, that plaque can turn into a hardened substance called tartar.
Tartar build-up is bad news. It can lead to damaged, inflamed gums and periodontal disease. Periodontal disease can lead to tooth damage and even tooth loss.
If you want better teeth this year, flossing daily is a big step forward.
2. Get a New Toothbrush Every Season
The ADA recommends replacing your toothbrush every 3-4 months to prevent bristle fraying.
If you neglect replacing your toothbrush at least once a season, you could be brushing your teeth with bristles that are simply not performing as they should. Frayed bristles won’t clean your teeth efficiently. This can lead to excess plaque and tartar buildup. It can also lead to tooth staining and gum issues.
Get a new soft-bristled toothbrush every season--your teeth will thank you.
3. See a Dentist
If you’re really serious about improving your tooth health and appearance in 2018, seeing a dentist is the best way to go.
Your dentist can perform a comprehensive dental exam, provide a deep cleaning and help you decide on future
procedures you may need or want.
